Cash for Votes

INFLATION AND ‘CASH FOR VOTES’

The FM could not manage his finances, the CM could not control the frenzy of imports, the TM could not stop people from holidaying in other countries, the PM could not help in reducing the consumption of petroleum products, the public wanted to spend, spend and spend more and MMS was twiddling his fingers texting excuses to SG! All this activity and inactivity ensured that inflation in the nation was like a hot air balloon that kept rising and rising and the nation’s currency was dwindling in value like the propane gas keeping the inflation balloon in the rising mode. A time came when the rupee’s value was falling like the spent boosters of a GSLV and the nation was being compared to a banana republic! People got into the barter system mode to survive, give a coconut to get a mango in exchange or some such thing. What about the millions who were living in apartments and who could not produce a coconut let alone a nut – they did menial jobs to earn their daily bread from the farmers or people who had backyards. The Ringling Brothers of India (RBI), a financial circus, did what it was best at doing and devalued the currency almost on an hourly basis – so much so that an NRI could buy Kerala for $10! In this scenario, the general elections were announced to keep the citizens amused and forget the misery of inflation for a few weeks. The G-topi’ed (the G not to be confused with the G in G-string) folks were equally worried about survival in these worrying times and wanted to participate in the barter system; but, they had only one commodity available with them – votes!

Now, please tell me folks, would you persecute these guys for selling their votes for cash in such trying conditions? Will someone kindly make the powers that be to understand the compulsions and forgive these poor khadi clad guys?
