US
The end of the Second World War was thought to usher in an era of peace, development and prosperity. However, such thoughts were short lived and the world witnessed a period of unrest and strife across all continents over a period of 66 years and it is still continuing. Though the period of colonization has died a well-deserved death, some nations wanted economic colonization for their own comfort at any cost – that is at any cost to the victim nation! This continues today and nobody can foretell when it will come to an end. In the earlier era of colonization, the needs were for spices, silk, timber and manpower, but, lately, it is for oil and mineral wealth and more importantly to obtain a free testing ground for new weapon systems.
We all know about the wars with our neighbors, the consequences and the cost to our country which we are bearing even today with no end in sight. We also know who the dramatis personae are apart from the participants. However, there is one distinction and that is these wars were not for economic colonization or to test new weapon systems – these wars were fought to sort out border disputes – disputes arising purely out of one colonizer’s mistakes. This same colonizer also created Israel and we have seen the kind of co-existence that they have had with their neighbors Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and other Arab countries.
Many nations that were victimizedfor no fault of theirs are suffering whilst some have been able to get over the setbacks and move ahead through development. Let us see which nations these are and where they stand today. Post Second World War, one of the first nations to suffer was Korea. Today we have North and South Koreas with both at two different ends of the prosperity scale. Vietnam, Kampuchea and Laos continue to suffer the consequences of exploitation even today. Colombia almost ended up being a banana republic and is still struggling to come to terms. Panama is still trying to establish itself as an independent entity. Then came a series of assaults, direct or indirect, on the identities of countries for the purpose of controlling their oil resources, to name a few – Soviet Union, Libya, Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Yemen and one can only make a studied guess as to who will be next.
Is it difficult to guess who the culprits are? In the first instance it is England and in the second, it is us! That is us as in United States. So why is it that we hold these countries in such high esteem! These two countries have a vested interest in keeping the world in a destabilized condition in order to satisfy their hunger for economic power and to keep their nations from collapsing into poverty ridden states. How long are we to keep quiet!
